The New Liberator is a production of Liberation Road that publishes the thinking and writing of our members, fellow travelers, and friends. We typically post once or twice a week, hot takes and sober analysis, on domestic and global events, history and culture, from a bench of alternating columnists and one-off contributors.

About Liberation Road
Liberation Road is a cadre socialist organization. We dig mass struggle and practical study, revolutionary strategy and left refoundation, the battle for racial and national self-determination and socialism. Our members—multigenerational, located throughout the US—are active in workplaces and unions, community groups, immigrant workers’ centers, LGBTQ+ organizations, reproductive justice groups, climate work, international solidarity efforts, and more.
We’ve been around since 1985. From the start we have centered the fight against white-supremacist national oppression and privilege, women’s and LGBTQ+ liberation, anti-imperialism, ecological justice, and a critical appraisal of 20th-century socialism. We aim to build a stronger Left rooted in mass movements, and a united front of all who want to defeat the fascist oligarchy that has seized power in the US.
2025: What’s even happening?!
The neoliberal consensus is kaput. Billionaires and big politicians can no longer stabilize the global system of theft called capitalism. Inhuman levels of inequality, climate catastrophe, poverty, sickness, and violence have dissolved the political status quo.
Into this breach has stepped MAGA, or what we call the “New Confederacy.” The 2024 election was a perfect storm of inflation, racism, misogyny, and far-right revenge. Now Trump and his goons are setting up their very own Mafia state. They’re determined to roll back civil rights; demonize immigrants, women, and LGBTQ+ people; shred the safety net; dismantle the federal government; and undermine democracy, all to the benefit of the oligarchs.
What’s our strategy?
We think it’s possible to get off the seesaw between neoliberalism and fascism. It will take a combination of mass electoral mobilization and mass nonviolent social action. It will take a strategic defensive struggle to block the worst offenses of Trump and MAGA, and a strategic-counteroffensive to win a Third Reconstruction worthy of our ancestors and our future.
